The obvious benefits of niche directories are their inherent limits because they can be useful in building theme-related links; with trends in search engines focusing on thematic aspect of sites and links this is good news for the engines, the site owners as well as the visitors.
Those who aggressively seeking niche directories are also highly targeted visitors. These visitors, coming from niche directories, will be more likely to be an active visitor than those who may stumble upon a site directly from search engine results. Since niche directories are typically much smaller and, by definition, more focused, more time and attention can be spend in helping a site become easier to locate.
